Barbehenn dropped a bomb on a strong local-flavored field in the 2002 Parramore,
dominating in conditions ranging from 2 knots and tide to 15 knots and steep
chop. The jets were the only class on the bay to get a race off on Saturday,
as the promised southeasterly failed to materialize. Barbehenn won the
start and never looked back, despite shifts of 60 degrees and horrific dead
zones in the breeze. Sunday's conditions were very different. A
15 knot southerly squarely opposed to the outgoing tide created great surfing
conditions off the breeze, but made it very difficult to keep the speed on upwind.
Barbehenn looked vulnerable before race 1, when a roller lifted the rudder
off the pintles with 1 minute to go to the start.....But no problem - tack boat
without rudder, reset rudder at 25 seconds, accelerate, nail start, sail away
from fleet. All in a day's work.
