The weather Saturday was not quite as cold and certainly not as windy as advertised and we had a great Jet Frost; didn’t even see ice on the decks of the boats. Wind was about 8 knots with gusts up to maybe 15. Four Jets were out and Parramore and Zack Skord cleaned up after six races with 10 points. James and Pete in their new acquisition of Brian Duff’s boat were second with 13. IC sailor Chris Brady along with Todd Croteau were third with 16 points. Also new Jet sailors Scott Williamson and Aubrey Barringer were out whipping old woodie 203 and themselves in shape. Neither had sailed a Jet before. Bruns and Berninger decided to wimp out Friday night but I did penance and ran the races. I had a lot of help from Aubrey’s Dad Jim and Scott’s Dad Joe, thanks guys. Michael served a mean chili.
I have looked at the long term forecast over the next two weeks and it suggests warming temperatures, even some 50s were seen. So reprogram your brain to sailing mode and plan to come out 23 Jan.
James McKenna has served with considerable energy and skill as fleet captain over the past several years. Especially last year as he successfully kept us off probation. He decided it was time to let someone else have the honor. I know I speak for all in thanking James for all his effort. It really takes a lot more work than some would imagine.
Micheal volunteered his services and is our new Fleet Captain. Already on the docket were some delicate discussions with the Board at SSA and with some prospects, which he navigated successfully. The result is we have two Jet sailors who have applied for membership at SSA and plan to bring boats to the Club.
Scott Willianson is a teacher in Baltimore and works a lot with youngsters. He also is the Junior Program Manager at Tred Avon. In addition to participating at SSA he is also hopeful at getting something going at Tred Avon in Jets; especially with youngsters. He has sailed for some time with young Mister Aubrey Barringer in Penguins and IC’s.
Frank Di’Traglia is a long time Jet sailor at WRSC. He doesn’t get to sail much as he has a medical practice in Mississippi. However he has acquired some additional Jets and is very interested in helping grow the Jet fleet; especially with Juniors. He has been working with Scott on this effort.
