Traveler’s Series Rules - 5/10/03

 

Current 2003 Standings

 

The Traveler’s Series is designed to acknowledge the participation of the active Jet 14 sailor’s who support the class throughout the year by participating in events outside of their own club. As such the scoring for the Series will be based on many factors and will focus the factors those that emphasize the value of participation.

 

1. For the first Traveler’s Series aka TS-1, the series will consist of four events & will be awarded at the 2003 Nationals. The events will include the following:

May 10- 11

 TS1: 1   Spring Thaw Invitational, Lake Norman, Mooresville, NC

June 21- 22

 TS1: 2   Cleveland Race Week, Edgewater Y.C.,

 Cleveland, OH         

July 12- 13

 TS1: 3    Sail Newport One Design Regatta,

Newport, RI   

Aug.14- 16

 TS1: 4    Jet 14 Nationals, West River SC,

Galesville, MD.*

       

 TS1: 4a  Jet 14 Junior Nationals, West

River SC, Galesville, MD.*

       

 TS1: 4b  Jet 14 Women’s Nationals, West

River SC, Galesville, MD.*

 

 

*If a woman or a Junior, sails in their specialized Nationals, they will get a cumulative score
 including the three elements for that event (See #7 below.) If they also sail in the Nationals,
 they will get the appropriate point totals for both events.  However, if they sail in two events
 at the Nationals, it will only count as one event out of the two events required to qualify for
 TS- 1 or as one of the three events required to qualify for TS- 2 & beyond.

 

2. Scoring will be high point with no throw outs. All events sailed in will count towards the cumulative score for the series.

 

3. To participate in the Traveler’s Series, you must be an active member of the  Jet 14 Class Association and sail in at least two events in TS-1and three events for TS-2 and beyond.

 

4. The first element of the composite score for an event is the Event Size


    Factor (a). Points will be awarded on the relative number of boats Registered in an event.
    

 

(a). # of Boats Registered

    

 1-  5 boats = 4 pts.    

  6-10 boats =  8 pts.

 

 11-15 boats = 8 pts.

 16-20 boats =  10 pts.

 

 21-25 boats = 12 pts.         

 26-30 boats =  14 pts.

 

 31-35 boats = 16 pts.         

 36-40 boats =  18 pts.

 

 41-45 boats = 20 pts.         

 46-50 boats =  22 pts.

 

 51-60 boats = 24 pts.         

 56-60 boats =  26 pts.

 

 61+   boats = 28 pts.

 

  

 

 

5. The second element of the scoring will be a Participation Factor (b) for sailing in a series’ event.

*Your home club is based upon the information provided
 in your annual membership application. If you do not
 declare a home fleet, events sailed in the state where
 you reside will be scored as 6 pts. for this element.

 

 

 

 

 

 

6. The third element is based on the Relative Finishing Positions (c) in an event.
    Points will be awarded as follows:

 7. Other than in the Nationals, all Events, including the Women’s & Junior
   Nationals
, will be scored by adding all three elements (a+b+c= event score).
   Due to the relatively higher number of boats sailing in the Nationals only the
   Participation Factor & the Finishing Position Factor (b+c= Nationals event
   score).

 

 

8. Updated scores for Series events will be available on the class website
    within a week after the event is sailed as well as in the Jet Blasts. If there

9. Ties will be broken in the following order;
    a). By the highest number of events sailed in;
    b). The highest cumulative Participation Factor (b) score;
    c). The highest cumulative event Size Factor (a) score;
    d). Which skipper beat the other more times in events where both boats raced.

 

*TS 2 will start with the events sailed after the 2003 Nationals and will conclude with the 2004 Nationals being sailed as the final event in the series. The following events have already been designated as events in the Series:
