2004 Annual Regatta

West River Sailing Club, Galesville, MD

Sept. 4-5

The Annual regatta at West River was held this past weekend. it started  
out with 3 jets racing in the SSA to WRSC race which ended in #544  
being towed to WRSC due to lack of wind. the other two boats, #398 and  
Clark and Hank Kennedy wisely went back to SSA on their own accord.  
Dick Kennedy and I talked for about 3 hours before being picked up. we  
were almost to Thomas Point.

The regatta got underway in light and lumpy conditions with Dirk and 5  
year old Conner Schwenk getting a bullet in the first race. They were  
looking really good in the 2nd race when alas, Conner lost his boat he  
was towing. Next time past prez Schwenk will be using his 33 foot line  
to secure the dinghy to the jet. (he was on the wrong side of the  
course anyway) the right was paying in that race. Jamie Smith on the  
other hand, got a second in that race. Who, by the way, is back racing  
in the class in her stepdad's (Dave Irey) #558. great to see the former  
all American and her crew from college out in a Jet. Warning  
Gentlemen-.. This duo is fast and her college sailing shows. She won  
the next race pretty convincingly. Clark  and Hank Kennedy were sailing  
quite well this day and were in second for the day with three 3rds.
	
The evening was highlighted by a band and bar b que beef dinner and a  
keg.

The next day dawned with 12- 16 out of the North east. This day  
featured Gobi posting 2 bullets with #558 hot on our heels. Placing  
third both days was Ben and Ken Allen. the highlight of this day was  
Dick kennedy demonstrating his surfing ability on the Jet when the  
painter let go at the dock. He did eventually capsize and Geoff Elliott  
is to be commended for jumping in to help right the craft. I believe a  
good time was had by all.
