June 5-6
The first race on Saturday set the tone for the series. After the wind quit after the start and then filled back in, everyone an I mean just about everyone on the last two legs was in everything from 2nd to 8th place several times. Dave Michos with Joy Shipman filling in for Sue,(out on the West coast in a womens match racing series) remained calm and got ahead to stay when it counted. Barb Joudrey and Tara Regan came from behind for third to establish themselves as contenders for the whole regatta. Karen Hugon sailing with husband John, his first regatta, were in 2nd or 3rd right up to the short beat to the finish but got pushed outside on the rounding and ended up 6th with class newcomers Stewart and Thomas Fitzgibbon closing fast.
For races two and three the wind had shifted to the east which but the course across the lake, not our best condition, made worse by fifty yards of calm at the weather mark caused by the treelined weather shore eighty yards away. Getting in and out was at times painful. Barb Joudrey and Tom Joudrey in #120 had it figured out by race three and led around the course. Carol and I got a lucky shift late to get by Tom but barey held of Class newcomer and boat owner Chad Clark who was going faster and faster with every passing minute.
Saturday evening was filled with food, happy hour, more food, and then if our stomachs were not assailed enough, a round of trivia quiz game led by Barb Joudrey......The whole thing was a hoax as the team with the most brains(Joy's team ) came in last and the team with the combined IQ of a squire won. I won't mention names but their team capt. initals are Ben Stock, Matt Scantland, Nate and Briget Ireland, Dan Riedl, Kendra Stevens, and Charles Stock.......We all gave them mean stares the rest of the weekend.
Sunday, and that is right, you missed it again, the He-Man-Breakfast...in Mohicans almost finished new kitchen. 'nuf said. On the race course it looked like we may get better wind than Saturday, this time out of the south. And I guess it was but not by much. Chad and daughter Dayna Clark just kept goint faster, winning the first race with the trivia winners, Matt and Ben putting in their best race with a very close fourth. It was just before at the end of race five so it was in for more food and trophies.
Thank you to everyone the made the time to join us and helpped organize and run the weekend. Can't wait until we see you all again at the next event.
