2008 Gravy Bowl Regatta

Hunterdon Sailing Club, Clinton, NJ

This year"s Gravy Bowl Regatta included  Leg 2 of the District I Championship, and the 2008 NJYRU  NJ State Jet 14 Championship.

Nine Jets, representing 4 Fleets, attended on a light wind day with Southeast to East breezes in the 0-5 range. 4 races were held,  the key to success was to find the next breeze before it even came in over the dam, and to luckily find a channel of wind.  To avoid being left at the starting gate was helpful too.

Not surprizingly, Brent Barbehenn, sailing in 1151 with Simon Bertocci mastered the vagaries and in race 3, went from a distant dead last at the starting line to win the race, and the Gravy Bowl.  Doug Brown, sailing with daughter Kelly, took second, and also won the NJYRA award.  Brent and Barbara Benson won 2 races and took 3rd place

 

Fleets represented were HSC, SSA, PLSC, and Mayfield, site of the 2009 Jet Nationals.

 

A stellar Race Committee coped beautifully with the difficult wind conditions, and we thank Chairman Rich Baumann, and Dave Japikse, Mike Wheeler and Ted Klein.
